Sculpture and painting at West Mill, Devon

There aren't many places like West Mill. It sits in isolation at the bottom of a magical valley of ancient oak woodland, with the rugged Atlantic coast only 300 yards away.
A small river twists its way down the valley, past the restored corn mill,
before escaping to the sea.

Teachers Ruth Miemczyk is a painter of great sensitivity and depth, who lives and works in North Cornwall. On this year's courses we will make drawings and paintings of more personal and creative interpretations of our surroundings in the beautiful Marsland valley. Ruth will give help and advice on the use of materials.

For more information, please call Ruth on 01840 230543 after 6pm.

Briony Lawson grew up at West Mill where her father, the poet Ronald Duncan, lived and worked. She will introduce you to her three mediums - wood, stone and clay. For those who have some experience she will give you more challenges. Perhaps her teaching is best summed up by one of her former students: "If the landscape provides the inspiration, Briony is the catalyst for creativity. Her enthusiasm is boundless. She fuels the atmosphere so that everyone sheds their inhibitions and gets to work. Art is almost inevitable at West Mill."

Briony will provide modelling & carving tools and clay, but wood and light stone will be available at cost price.
